Remedy (Nuskhe)

  • Crush a few neem leaves with a little water.  Strain it.  Warm it up.  Add a little honey and gargle.
  • Mix 1 teaspoon lemon juice and 1 tablespoon honey.  Swallow tiny amounts slowly 2-3 times a day.
  • A solution of 2 teaspoons of glycerine and 1 teaspoon of borax powder (suhaaga) will give you quick relief from a sore throat.  Swirl this mixture in your mouth for a little while with a cotton but, leave mouth open, bend head in a sink and then let it slide down slowly.
  • Tender leaves of mango (aam) tree help to cure throat ailments and also make the voice sweet.  They should be eaten raw daily.
  • For an effective home remedy for sore throat, cough and cold, boil 1 cup of water with a few mint (pudina) leaves till reduced to half the quantity.  Strain the boiled water and add 1 teaspoon honey to it.  The children will like the sweet taste of honey in it.
  • Sip or drink slowly 1 cup hot water mixed with juice of ½ lemon (nimbu) and 1 teaspoon honey.
  • Boil 1 glass of milk with a small pinch of ground turmeric (haldi), pepper (kali mirch) powder and sugar candy (mishri).  Strain it and have it as hot as possible.  It relives throat pain and lung congestion.
  • Drink tea boiled with ginger (adrak) and a few tulsi leaves 2-3 times a day.
  • Gargle with warm salt water at least twice a day.  However do not make gargling sounds a this may aggravate the soreness.
