Menstruation |
|
Although menstruation is a natural phenomenon in women, they can be painful, delayed, excessive or irregular. Remedies for these conditions are listed below.
MENSTRUAL PAINS
Remedy (Nuskhe)
- Boil 1 teaspoon saffron (kesar) in ½ cup water. Let it reduce to become 1 tablespoon. Divide this decoction into three portions and take with equal quantities of water, thrice daily for a couple of days.
- Grind a small piece of ginger (adrak), 1 flake garlic (lasan) and a few leaves of drumstick (sahijan), if available, to a paste with a little salt and water. Take about 2 tablespoon on an empty stomach in the morning and before going to bed for the first three days of the period. Repeat this treatment for 3 months.
- Add a handful of common salt to your bath water to get relief from painful menstruation.
- Mix 1 ripe banana with a little amla powder, honey and sugar and eat it daily for a few days. This is good for all menstrual complaints and also white discharge.
MENSTRUATION DELAYED
Remedy (Nuskhe)
- Take ½ teaspoon finely ground cinnamom (dalchini) every night along with 1 cup milk.
- Powder 1 teaspoon dried mint (pudina) leaves and take with 1 teaspoon honey, thrice daily.
- 6 to 8 almonds, crushed and mixed with 1 cup milk along with 1 egg yolk, ½ teaspoon sesame (til) powder and 1 teaspoon honey. Take once or twice a day.
MENSTRUATION, EXCESSIVE BLEEDING
Remedy (Nuskhe)
- Grind some bel leaves into a fine paste. Take 1 teaspoon with warm water and drink some cold water as well.
- Grind 10 fresh buds of figs (anjeer) and apply on the lower abdomen below the navel for a few hours. Repeat this freuquently.
- Boil 1 teaspoon coriander (dhania) seeds in 2 cups water till it is reduced to 1 cup. Add sugar to taste and drink when lukewarm. Repeat twice or thrice a day.
- In the case of excessive flow during menstruation, get a few small and tender brinjals (baingan) fresh from the plant, grind them with a little water, squeeze out the juice, strain and drink it for 3 consecutive days before the commencement of the monthly period.
- If hibiscus flowers (china rose) are ground to a pulp and mixed in a cup of milk and drunk, excessive menstrual flow ceases.
- Take 1 flake of garlic (lasan), a few neem (margosa) leaves and a small piece of turmeric (haldi). Grind them together to a fine paste and prepare small tablets and store. Eat one tablet per day for 3 days immediately preceding the commencement of the periods to cease excessive menstrual flow.
- Take 1 teaspoon sugar and 2 teaspoon honey, mix them together and eat it daily for 5 days.
MENSTRUATION, PAINFUL AND IRREGULAR

A piece of fresh ginger (adrak), ground and boiled in a cup of water. The infusion is taken thrice daily after meals along with sugar. |
