What is a burn?
A burn is damage to your body's skin surface and tissues.
Causes
Caused by heat, chemicals, electricity, sunlight or radiation.
Symptoms
Pain, immediate redness of skin, which may develop into blisters and swelling.
Remedy (Nuskhe)
- Cold water, and plenty of it, can sharply cut down the degree of burns. Contrary to popular belief it is not any greasy ointment or a blanket which provides relief to a burn victim, but soaking the burnt limb in cold water which is the best first aid. People have to be made aware of this simple yet effective method of dealing with burns, both superficial and deep.
- If it is burns from hot liquids then rub the affected area immediately with ice cubes and then apply a solution of milk and honey. This prevents formation of blisters.
- In the case of burns due to your clothes catching fire, apply generously a solution of freshly prepared very strong black tea which has been cooled to body temperature or pour cold water.
- Burn a handful of mango leaves to ashes and apply this on the affected parts.
- Mash a ripe banana well so as to form a smooth paste. Apply on wounds and burns and tie a bandage on it for immediate relief.
- Desi ghee.
For minor burns: Remedy (Nuskhe)
- For slight burns the application of honey or ink will reduce the burning sensation.
- Soda bicarb made into a very thin paste eases pain of burns (sunburns as well) if applied at once.
- The best way to treat a small burn at home is to apply toothpaste on the burnt area. The chemical in the toothpaste helps to soothe and does not allow blisters to form.
