MARJORAM (ORIGANUM MAJORANA)

Effects: Soothing and warming.

Aroma: Middle note.

A bushy plant native to France, Spain, Hungary, and Yugoslavia. It has very small white flowers.

Properties: 

  • Analgesic.
  • Antiseptic.
  • Antispasmodic. 
  • Diuretic.

Contra-indications:
Not to be used during pregnancy.

Extraction:
Steam distillation of the leaves and flowering tops.

Uses:

  • Anxiety.
  • Bronchitis.
  • Insomnia.
  • Aches and pains.
  • Sinusitis. 
  • PMT

Marjoram has a beneficial effect on rheumatism, arthritis, sprains and cramp.

It can also help relieve digestive problems such as colic, flatulence and constipation, and can be used to relieve skin problems and bruises.

Respiratory conditions such as bronchitis can be alleviated.

Scent: Warm, spicy, woody.
