MELISSA/LEMON BALM (MELISSA OFFICINALIS)

Effects: Calming.

Aroma: Middle note.

A bushy herb with pink or white flowers, native to the Mediterranean regions.

Properties: 

  • Antidepressant. 
  • Antispasmodic.
  • Sedative.

Contra-indications:
May cause skin irritation so always use well-diluted. It is difficult to find pure. 

Extraction:
Steam distillation of the leaves and tops.

Uses:

  • Colds and flu.

Melissa has a beneficial effect on the nervous system and is helpful in stress related conditions.

Scent: Fresh, sweet, herbaceous.

Combines with:

  • Bergamot.
  • Geranium. 
  • Eucalyptus.
