YLANG YLANG (CANANGIUM ODORATUM)

Effects: Stimulating.

Aroma: Base/middle note.

This tall tree is native to the Philippines and the Far East. The large distinctive flowers can be various colours but the yellow ones are considered to produce the best oil.

Properties: 

  • Antiseptic.
  • Antidepressant.
  • Calming.
  • Sedative.

Contra-indications: 
May be an irritant to sensitive skins and should not be used on inflammatory skin conditions. The strong scent can cause headaches.

Extraction:
Steam distillation of the flowers.

Uses:
• Intestinal infections.
• High blood pressure.
• Stress.

Ylang-Ylang is helpful in dealing with anxiety, panic and shock as it has a relaxing effect on the nervous system. It is also believed to help feelings of resentment, guilt and jealousy.

It has a balancing effect on the hormones and is a tonic for the uterus.

Ylang-Ylang oil has a balancing effect on oily and dry skins.
