TEA-TREE (MELALEUCA ALTERNIFOLIA)

Effects: Cleansing.

Aroma: Top note.

This tree is a species of the Melaleuca tree found in Queensland and New South Wales in Australia.

Properties: 

  • Powerful antiseptic.
  • Antifungal.
  • Antiviral.
  • Antibiotic.
  • Detoxifying.
  • Stimulant. 
  • Insecticide.

Contra-indications:
May irritate sensitive skins.

Extraction:
Steam distillation of the leaves and twigs.

Uses:

  • Helps the immune system attack infections, viruses, fungi and yeast.
  • Helpful in colds, flu and catarrh.

It is useful for the treatment of athletes foots, corns, etc. A few drops can also be added to a foot bath.

Adding the diluted oil of tea tree to a bath will help alleviate urinary problems such as cystitis, and fungal infections such as Candida albicans which is related to thrush.

It has a beneficial effect on skin problems such as spots, burns, warts, sunburn, boils.
